Who You Are Matters
Where do I come from?
I am from the Bay Area, namely a city called Milpitas. My parents are from Taiwan, so that has played a big part throughout my life.
Where am I going?
I'm hoping to become a CPA in the future! But I'm still not sure if I want to stay in California to stay close to family or move to a different state to try something new.
How do I plan to get there?
I have an accouting internship this summer in New York, which is one big step in achieving my goals. I've been working hard for the past two and a half years and I'm not going to stop now!
How am I like my parents?
I have my mom's work ethic; we always strive to accomplish tasks in a timely manner. I have my dad's temperament; we always like to evaluate situations from a wider perspective.
How am I unlike my parents?
My parents are pretty uptight, largely because they care about both my sister's and my success. I tend to take things more relaxed, doing things at my own pace instead of worrying too much.
Have I developed my own set of expectations for myself?
I like to think that I have set my own goals. Although I know that parental influences will always play a part in my life (especially with Asian parents), I try my best to clear out my own path in life.
One wild animal that I feel a special connection to is the capybara! A couple of years ago, I saw a video of capybaras chilling in hot springs in Japan. I really feel like they are living the ideal life: relaxing in a hot bath full of oranges. Honestly, I wish to get to that point sometime in my life.
I am a Cancer Sun, Cancer Moon, and a Sagittarius rising.

Hi Bryan,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I wanted to say that I really enjoyed the pictures and video that you shared in your blog post. I especially liked the video of the capybaras in the bath full of oranges. It's funny that you mentioned them as the animal you feel a connection with because I was just at the Santa Barbara Zoo last weekend and I saw them there for the first time. I also really relate to how you said you don't worry that much and are more relaxed because I am the same way and I love being that way. Too much of the time people get worried over the smallest things and life can be a lot less stressful if you are just more laid back.
Hi Bryan,
ReplyDeleteIt was so sweet reading about your birthday family tradition. I bet you have a lot of plants around your house, which is super cool. My family is the exact opposite, all of our trees and bushes were cut down (and we replaced grass with concrete). I think blueberry bushes have thorns, so maybe it's for the best that there was no fruit to harvest and you spared your hands a couple of scratches! Also, have a great time in New York! That opportunity sounds amazing and I am really happy for you.

Hi Bryan,
ReplyDeleteAlso in accounting, from the Bay, a Cancer sun and Sagittarius rising! Super cool that your family's from Taiwan, do you go back there often? I spent a summer in Taiwan and it was honestly the best time of my life. The people and food were so amazing, once the pandemic is in check it's definitely one of the first places I'm going back to. Also appreciate your love for capybaras! They're super cute and I remember seeing them all the time at the zoo when I was younger.

Hi Bryan,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the accounting internship! I'll also be in New York this summer. I can tell you're really motivated and family-oriented. I especially loved your family's tradition of planting a tree on each birthday. It made me think of the growth and hard work that you alluded to in your other answers. I also loved the capybara video - thanks for sharing!
My bad this is from Francesca
DeleteHey Bryan,
ReplyDeleteI'm really happy for your about your internship! I thought the story about your blueberry bush is really special. That is such a cool tradition to have. I'm also glad you were able to carve out expectations for yourself even under your parents pressure. I wish you luck on your goal to be a CPA!
Best,
Brooke
